Explaining White Privilege to a Broke White Person

Hey All! I just came across this article called Explaining White Privilege to a Broke White Person and it covers a lot of interesting topics about the intersectionality of race/gender/sexuality etc. I think these are important things to remember and reflect on, especially in light of all the controversy surrounding Ferguson right now. Also, the author mentions that the work that made him realize his privilege was Peggy McIntosh's "White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack" !!!!

  1. The Motley Manager Team had a long conversation about Whiteness & Privilege before the start of the semester. As part of it, we all read Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack and each brought in an article we found that we felt was relevant to the discussion. This is the article I brought in for that! It truly brings an important perspective. And I think that a lot of the things on Macintosh's list in Knapsack are perhaps more about class than race.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Sloan. I was able to see Peggy McIntash speak a few months ago and I think I can safely say that it was a moment from my college career I will likely remember in great detail for the rest of my life. It was really interesting to see what this guy had to say about her work. I think that one of the main takeaways I got from Peggy McIntosh's talk is that privilege and marginalization are not mutually exclusive. It sounds like her work helped him understand that, too.
